Journal Poll Gives MLG 7 Point Lead Over Ronchetti; 47 to 40 Percent

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has opened up a seven point lead in the '22 New Mexico gubernatorial race, besting Republican rival Mark Ronchetti 47 to 40 percent in a survey of 518 likely voters conducted by the Albuquerque Journal August 19- 25. Undecided voters were at 8 percent and Libertarian candidate Karen Bedonie polled at 5 percent.

Those results contrast with the four point lead MLG had in the May SurveyUSA when she led Ronchetti 47 to 43 and the race became of national interest.

MLG had a big lead with women and held a one point lead over Ronchetti with men. She led all geographic areas of the state except the conservative Eastside. The margin of error of the poll is plus or minus 4.4 percent.

A seven point lead in the widely followed and respected Journal survey is significant and presents a steep hill for Ronchetti to climb between now and election day November 8.

Former state legislator, attorney and veteran political analyst Greg Payne put it this way:

For Ronchetti this poll is a bucket of ice water on a campaign he's been claiming is on fire.
